IT IS NOT JUST OVERKILL, IT IS A DOWNRIGHT OBSESSION

When it comes to the ultra-right conservative Republicans, and there seems to be plenty of those around; they are not just happy with doing what is necessary to fix a problem. No, they want to go a step beyond, to reach further and do more than it is called for.

When it comes to immigration for example; they are not just happy with securing the border. There are more troops in our border (Southern) than there ever has been before. But you would think that this would satisfy some of these wing nuts; yet, they want to go beyond that; they want to stop cars and persecute people based on the perceived way they look or act. They even want to force landlords to require tenants to produce proof of citizenship and employers severely punished if they employ someone who is here illegally.

They have even proposed to cut off electricity to families found to be in the U.S. illegally…really?

When it comes to religion, it is not sufficient that in our country we enjoy freedom of religion. Anybody is free to worship any god or entity, even if it is green unicorns from Tasmania. But these right wing fanatics want to go a step beyond and declare this nation “A Christian Nation” officially.

The right wing homophobes are not happy that gay Americans do not enjoy over 1,100 rights that are granted to the rest of the heterosexuals, they want to make it official that this is a sin and an abomination and that their definition of marriage is what is valid; that is only between a man and a woman. It is not enough to have homophobia, they want actual persecution and punitive measures for being something a person does not have a choice in being.

When it comes to freedom of speech, they only want that which reflects their point of view and furthers their agenda. It is perfectly acceptable to have a cable network calling itself a news organization and spreading lies and engaging in politics in the most egregious and overt ways. But let any news organization make a positive statement about our President or any of his accomplishments and they are labeled “the leftist, elite media”.

When we go to war, particularly an unnecessary one, it is not enough to depose a dictator and obliterate the country, we must stay as occupiers for decades to come because we want to do “nation building”. We went into Afghanistan under the assumption that we wanted to capture or kill Osama Bin Laden for the 9/11 attacks. Once he was gone and once the Al Qaida organization was decimated there should be no further need for our presence in that country. What we should be doing instead is working with Pakistan to go after Bin Laden and do so in very decisive ways. I suppose that is too much to ask of Republicans, that they should be happy to wage war; they have to do so continuously and everywhere. In the meantime, that is costing us treasure and precious human lives.

When Republicans interrogate terrorists, they are not happy with doing it in a humane, civilized way that we have recognized as the accepted way by signing treaties, they believe that we should be cruel and vindictive, that we should torture and humiliate them. They are downright sadists.

Faced with the largest ecological disaster in our entire history, what do the Republicans do? They are not just satisfied to represent the interests of the oil companies, they even apologize to them.
