Some inherit their fortunes and others make it all on their own
But there is a crossroads, a point of no return that everyone who has tons of money goes through. It is simply this: what to do with all that money you could not possibly spend in your lifetime and do you continue your break-neck pace to make more or do you use your money to benefit society?
We see folks who are immensely wealthy engaged in all kinds of philanthropic endeavors. We admire people like Bill Gates and Oprah Winfrey, Jimmy Buffett … because they are just that kind…givers. Their generosity has no limits and so their validation is acquired by knowing they have done the right thing. Others like Soros are immensely worried about his adopted country and will fund progressive-liberal causes.
Then there are others like John McCain who didn’t know exactly how many homes he owned; the Koch brothers, Murdoch, Glenn Beck, and Rush Limbaugh to name a few that are only interested in hoarding, in making more and in imparting misery to society to accomplish their goal of fortune amassing. These are the kinds of people that not only don’t deserve to be wealthy but that are in line for our condemnation and contempt…there is no way anybody can convince me that their actions and endeavors are anything other than selfish and ill-intentioned.
I have never been extremely wealthy but I found myself at one point in my life where I thought I was prosperous enough to have my future and that of my two daughters all secured. I can tell you that I never forgot where I came from and when my advertising agency had to close because of Hurricane Andrew…damage that was done to my offices and putting three of my best customers out of business…I had to lay off my three employees. My secretary was about to get married; my sales rep was also and had a baby on the way and my art director was a single mom with four kids. I could have just as easily told them that I was closing the doors of the business and let it go at that; but instead I gave them four week’s severance pay and a bonus. Mind you, the debts I had to pay for advertising already placed in publications was astronomical. I borrowed the money against my credit card to give it to my employees.
No, I don’t want any accolades for that but it shows how one can do the right thing. In my case I did it even when it hurt me financially. In the case of the Walton family, the Koch brothers, Rush or Beck they really don’t have to make any sacrifices to do the right thing but opt to do society harm by lying, conspiring to push hurtful agendas instead and in general misleading the public in order to make even more money.
I don't want to hear the old song and dance about socialism, redistribution of the wealth, TRICKLE DOWN ECONOMICS and all that bullshit because I am a strong believer in the FREE ENTERPRISE SYSTEM; only it has to have regulations because greed has no conscience and some of these multi-billionaires are devoid of compassion and or a sense of what is right and what is wrong. Are these bad people? You bet they are, they are horribly evil.
