Almost 10 years after the 9/11 terror strike, Al-Qaeda Leader Osama bin Laden was today killed by US forces after being hounded in a special operation in Abbottabad in Pakistan. Bin Laden, 54, is dead and his body is in US custody, President Barack Obama announced today at half past 11 Sunday US time as crowds outside White House chanted 'USA, USA'.

A person with knowledge of the decision says Tennessee has fired Bruce Pearl after a season that saw the coach charged with unethical conduct for lying to NCAA investigators during a probe into recruiting.


The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the university has not announced the firing.

In six seasons, the 51-year-old Pearl led the Volunteers to their first No. 1 ranking and first NCAA tournament regional finals appearance, missing out on a trip to the 2010 Final Four by a single point.

Pearl acknowledged in a tearful press conference on Sept. 10 that he had given investigators false information when asked about a cookout at his home attended by high school juniors. The NCAA has since charged the Tennessee basketball and football programs with a dozen violations.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day fast approaching all of this red-blooded American (transplanted to Canada), a girl can think about something like a gourmet, it’s a little embarrassed to admit. I bet you can not even guess. It’s too offensive. Okay, okay, I’ll tell you.Shamrock Shake. Yes, from McDonald’s, no less. Since I’m honest about my Guilty Pleasures here I might as well tell you that I have a slight obsession with quarter pounder with cheese, too. Shamrock Shake in a pair of quarter pounder, well, that sounds like just a little bit of heaven for me. If you are going to judge, I suggest you stop reading now. Because I know, this type of food is not so good for you and there was nothing out of this back in 2011, I will never deny my love for the taste of it.

Moving on, as the St. Patty’s Day is often associated with an adult beverage or two or even 10 depending on man, I thought, why not make a right turn at this mint green shake to make it a little more …um … older sister, known as a fly. Yes you can get one at a local McD add booze, but it’s a little more fun and could have fun before or after treatment for your celebration tomorrow. Or is it a great way to end the night drinking beer and eating corned beef and cabbage at home, if you do not feel like dreading the madding crowd bar. In any case, I say go for it.

Boozy Shamrock Shake

2 1 / 2 cup natural vanilla ice cream
3 / 4 cup milk – all are probably better, but I used 1%
3 Tbsps green creme de menthe
2 Tbsps vodka
1 / 2 tbsp clear creme de cacao or more to taste (can use dark, but you get a muddy color) 1
green food coloring (optional)
Whipped cream and green sprinkles, if you feel more festive

1. A mixture of cream and milk in blender. Blend, to come together.Add to creme de menthe, vodka, creme de cacao and a little green food coloring. Noise in a blender to combine. Serve in glasses garnished with whipped cream and green sprinkles.

I have a cute little glasses of wine, which were the perfect size for those little Buzi few drinks. I went for something stronger, as they are in honor of St. Patty’s Day and as a girl from Boston We take this holiday very seriously, so I went for it. You can easily cut the vodka, if you want something a bit more tame. I originally did not do it with creme de cacao, but found only added a splash of really made it an ideal and much more closely lived up to my memory Shamrock Shake. Most recipes you find for Shamrock Shake do not include chocolate flavor, but if I remember correctly, there was a little bit. This is my version, so I went with my memory, do what works for you.

St. Patrick’s Day is this Thursday March 17th. Celebrations have already started and will continue until the big day. I was actually in Savannah this past weekend for a culinary retreat. Savannah hosts one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day parades and festivities in the country. There was literally green everywhere you looked. From the greening of the fountains in the magnificent squares, to the men walking around in kilts, to the students dressed in beads and silly hats. They even serve green beer during the festivities. They are serious about St. Patty’s day in Savannah!

With spring about a week away, it’s time to change the clocks.
This weekend, Daylight Saving Time will kick in at 2 a.m. Sunday morning.


Most people remember to “spring forward and fall back” when it comes time to change the clock.

The local fire department, in addition to the agencies nationwide, use the date to remind residents to change their clock, change their batteries.

“It’s standard to change the batteries when you change your clock for daylight savings,” said Cañon City Fire Department administrative assistant Diane Mahlberg. “But we don’t have a mandate.”

But she cautioned that changing the batteries is a safety measure.

At the same time, those who cannot change their batteries for any reason are encouraged to call the fire department to schedule a time for firefighters to change the batteries for them, but residents need to supply their own batteries.

As a courtesy, the local department will provide a smoke alarm to anyone who cannot afford one, but it’s on a first-come, first-serve basis.

“They have to fill out an application and the guys will check it out,” Mahlberg said.

When they’re gone, that’s it. Although smoke detectors are wired to electricity, they need to have their batteries changed twice a year, as well.

DST was first observed in 1918 and was used on and off however the state determined. During the 1973 the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries oil embargo, the idea of conserving fuel went nationwide.

Later, Congress passed the Energy Policy Act in 2005, which changed the dates for DST to begin in 2007 with the goal of reducing nationwide electricity by 1 percent.

In Colorado at the end of the 20th century, State Sen. MaryAnne Tebedo attempted to present the idea of keeping the clock the same year round; however, she found a law that forbade the extension of daylight savings time.

Instead of giving the idea up, Tebedo introduced the proposal to exempt the state of Colorado from DST, but it failed in the committee.

Since 2007, daylight saving time has begun at 2 a.m. on the second Sunday of March and ended at 2 a.m. the first Sunday of November.
