Intel launches chips problem back on the market

The producers who undertake must block the problematic parts only in those systems where the error is irrelevant, Intel announced on Monday (local time) with the Santa Clara, California.

In the major manufacturers such as HP and Dell are currently still a lot of tapes, because the so-called chip sets are missing for the latest-generation processors, "Sandy Bridge". Intel controls about 80 percent of the market, AMD and other rivals are much smaller.

The recently discovered technical design flaw affects Intel's new chip generation, "Sandy Bridge" in which the company first processor unit (CPU) with a graphics unit (GPU) links directly. The affected chipset organize include the connection and the data flow to each interface of the computer.

When the faulty components, it is possible that some hard drives or DVD drives are driven with the wrong time or too slow. The problem of chips are now to be built in such as notebooks, where such connections are not used anyway. A repaired, error-free chip is already produced and will now be delivered from mid-month. So far, Intel has put off his customers at the end of the month.

Intel had a week ago, acknowledged the error, immediately stopped production and delivery and launched in cooperation with the manufacturers a call back. The problematic chipsets were from 9 January has been delivered. The processor, the heart of the computer is working properly, according to Intel.

Intel expects to cost 700 million dollars to convert to production and shipped to repair the computer or to compensate the customers. The Group is also of sales loss in the quarter from $ 300 million. So this is one of the most expensive periods in its history.
