The Nokia-Microsoft alliance would be beneficial for competition

Commenting on the recent announcement of the new alliance between Nokia and Microsoft to create smartphones running Windows phone, some analysts said that Apple would benefit from this situation.

In particular, Mike Abramsky of RBC Capital said that this alliance could inadvertently help the competition, primarily Apple and Google Android, as well as RIM.

The agreement between Nokia and Microsoft, in fact, could produce a very strong platform that, if successful, would help Microsoft to win 30-35% of the smartphone market, speeding up, however, the growth of the shares of competitors.

This is because, as Microsoft has promised priority for the alliance with Nokia, many other mobile phone makers could block the adoption of Windows Mobile and choose, for example, Android, as well as, conversely, Google may permanently close the door to Nokia.

And Apple might benefit from the fact that, initially, the developers prefer to wait for the actual performance of the new platform and that only in case of success will begin to develop in earnest. This, the analyst continues, could result in a boost for Apple and its rivals.

Finally, he concludes Abramsky, Nokia alliance - Microsoft, just because that seemed so strong, it could create a clear contrast between the trio Google-Apple-RIM and Nokia-Microsoft duo.
